Re: Cider

I used Wyeast Cider # 4766 Vinter's Choice Activator "smack pack" it says on the packet "temp range between 70° and 74°", but on their website I'm seeing a range of 60° to 75° for the yeast strain, so the upper range must be for activation of the smack pack, and not the yeast its...

Re: Cider

Thanks for all the replies gents... I do have a temp sticker on the side of my primary bucket, although in a rookie move I did forget to measure the OG. It went as high as 72° but was mostly between 66° & 70° (I just moved and I haven't quite figured out what to do with all 4 thermostats and 2 z...

Re: Cider

So on this topic - I caved and started to take homebrewing seriously. The wife bought me a homebrew kit from Midwest (I'm sure many of you are familiar) in SLP for my birthday, and after a few batches of beer, I'm revisiting hard cider. I got one of the buckets of pasteurized no-preservative cider f...

Re: PIC10F Cap Touch Board/MCP1650 White LED Board

Re: Cider

So - I know this is the internet and all, and we like to use anonymisms; however this is Twin Cities Maker; Have you had luck with a particular Apple Orchard? Last fall I called all the places in the west metro that came up in a yellow pages search (not a comprehensive search by any means, probably ...

Re: Cider

So.. skimming back through your other discussion. Pasteurized is ok, but then I'll have to add my own yeast (ah that wonderful fungi that eats sugar and poops alchohol) Actually now that I think about it, that's precisely what those brew at home kits have in them isn't it? Those don't rely on natura...

Re: Cider

OK, I know this is an old thread and you guys had your thing going here.. But after seeing instructables from last fall on making hardcore/alchoholic cider I thought I'd try it. I ran into a snag - all the ciders I could find were pasteurized in some form or another, even the commercially available ...
