Re: 3D printers at Minne-Faire - looking for participants

Do any of you 3D printer people have an extra RAMPS board lying around? My electronics decided to flake out on me tonight, mid-print. I have pololu drivers. Not sure yet if I need the Arduino Mega.

That would be me.
I'd love to participate. I'm not sure I can be there both days, however.

Re: Stepup transformer and voltage regulation?

Transformers do not work with DC.

If you want to step up the voltage of a DC source you need some sort of DC to DC converter
which essentially takes DC input, chops it up into AC, steps it up with a transformer, then rectifies it back to DC.

Re: State of the forge and foundry projects?

I've got a small-ish charcoal fired foundry project collecting dust on a shelf, at the shop. It is easily capable of melting aluminum, possibly brass or bronze. As for casting 3d printed parts, when the Makerbot people were visiting, they had some parts that were cast in bronze. They simply buried t...

Re: Why so many places to post messages/questions to the gro

I don't think this problem is unique to the TC Maker community at all. It is a problem inherent in internet communications these days. Between all the social medias, instant messengers, voice chat, video chat, message boards, email, etc... I have more ways to communicate with people than I have peop...

Re: Funny pic

Right now all the real engineers are busy analyzing why that method won't work, and figuring out how to modify the method so that he will not wind up pouring beer all over himself.

Re: Open Source DLP 3d Printer

Another factor that may add complexity will be the optics. I'm guessing that most projectors aren't designed to focus down to a 4" or 6" square area. Getting it to do so will require modifying the optics. Doing so without adding significant distortion may be non-trivial.

Re: Free scrap metal

I'm tempted to say bring it because it would make raw material for aluminum casting, assuming it is aluminum.
Unfortunately my foundry isn't ready, yet, so this stuff would just sit around in the way.

Re: Glass block lights update

I've been playing with a string of the lights at home, on my own. (They'll likely find their way to the Hack Factory when I get bored with them.) I grabbed the led.pde file from the github site (https://github.com/knitfoo/geled/blob/master/led.pde) but it wouldn't compile clean for me. It complained...
