Re: open source ECU (engine control unit)

I don't know anything about this at all, but it does sound damned interesting.

What would you like to learn in a leatherworking class?

I'm going to set up a few more leatherworking classes in the near future and I'm curious what people would like to learn. So far the format has been to build a specific object (bracelet, dog collar) and learn the skills needed to do so while doing. Other potential projects include things like flask ...

Re: Metal Casting Group - looking for interested folks

I'm interested! I've got a few waxes that are ready to go if I can get access to some silver and a casting aparatus that's suitable for them. What do we need right now? Crucibles? Sand? I know you can mix your own green sand and if anyone is qualified to work with one of the forges tongs can be made...

two steel yard sticks marked "Mahoney" and "Artefactory

I've had a pair of the steel or aluminum yard sticks down in the artefactory go missing. They're labelled "Mahoney" and "artefactory" and have my number on them. Anyone know where they ended up? I'm sure they just got moved to the metal shop or something but I'd like them back. A...

Selling 511 Tactical Vest and pouches

For sale: 511 Tactical vest and molle pouches Years ago when I was in to Airsoft I bought a nice tactical vest and various pouches. I'm not in to airsoft anymore so I'm selling the whole lot off to clear out closet space. They've only been used a few times and are in good condition. The only reason ...

Solar Scorcher for smelting small amounts of metal?

Apparently you can pull gigantic Fresnel lenses out of old rear-projection TVs. So I'm thinking - Gigantic solar death ray + Crucible + some fire-brick = A now power, no gas, no coal option for casting small amounts of metal - jewelry and small parts. There are three rear-projection TVs in the freeb...

State of the forge and foundry projects?

I'd like to get my forge on. I understand that some combination of forges, foundries, and casting equipment is being worked on, but I'm not sure who is working on it or where in the process things are. Who should I be talking to if I want to get involved in this?

Where should I look for steel for small projects?`

I'd like to get some steel or iron for small projects like pins, brooches, pen knives, needles, maybe even a few leather punches. Are there any scrap yards or metal supply shops that are friendly to hobbyists looking for a foot or two of bar stock? The watchwords here are 'local' and 'cheap'.

Re: What do we have? An equipment and skills inventory

Hello. I just paid for a membership, thought I would introduce myself. I'm Frank. I do leatherworking and a touch of carpentry, metalworking, woodworking, chainmail, and a variety of other odds and ends. I've got an angle grinder, a circular saw, jigsaw, power drill, assorted hand tools, and a power...
