I agree. Even if the workshop idea doesn't get off the ground, maybe this can be a launching point for a group that meets periodically.

I caught the site on the Make blog and I'm psyched about the idea. After reading about similar concepts in other cities I wondered what it would take to get one off the ground here...

I hope the post on Make's blog and other posts get interest flowing into here. I'm definitely going to reach out to my slice of the geek community to see what interest can be generated.

Myself and my partner in crime are circuit bending, experimental music making, pinhole photographing, offbeat sons of guns that would love to be a part of this crazyness. We'll bring some soldering irons, a theremin, some books on Tesla and get settled in once we figure out where and how.

great, the more we can reach out the better. I think a lot of people will be interested in this if they get a chance to learn about it.

I'm in. I've always liked repurposing discarded whatever.
My skills are from the Auto Mechanics area.
Electronics, plumbing, hydrolics, pneumatics, HVAC, deductive reasoning.

I use to attend 2600 meetings in the TC.
I can tell you right now that having a greater hands-on aspect to a group
would benefit everyone who belongs to that group; Look at what happens when
you put a bunch of anti-social hackers together in an uncomfortable
setting with no hands on (MOA, well planB for 2600)...NOTHING MUCH.

Yeah I remember some people tried to give the group some direction and were
open to all minds; This effort was seriously opposed by some of the group, so
things never worked out as well as they could have (The dude who tried to
help everyone now works for the Pentagon, local talent rules!).

Having a shop: Good thing.
Organizing workshops: Even better.
Telling your friends: Essential.

Information is the only resource that can be in two places at the same time:
e.g. I take a composite class at Oshkosh, WI; I then host a class at the TC "makeshop"
by presenting a workshop sign-up form. I would then initiate an advertising campaign
for my workshop by contacting RC groups and custom car enthusiast.

Building: Haven't a clue.
Finance: Charge for the workshops.
The bottom line: If you get the word out you might be able to sustain a location.

This country needs to rekindle it's hobbiest movement.

I'm very excited about this. I have only recently started to realize that I am a Maker or a do-it-yourselfer or what-have-you. I'm light on skills, but big on enthusiasm.
