I thought I would toss this out there, just so people know about it.

FreeGeek is a Non-Profit that takes in used computers and peripherals and finds ways to recycle them.

Useable parts are built into working computers (which they sell starting at $40 for a P4 1.7) Others like LCD displays, Disk Drives, Ram are just checked to be working, and sold as parts.

They have also extended the offer to sell us things like stepper motors, hard drive cases, fans, etc at the same price they get for recycle.

Now as mentioned on another post, they cut the wires off the stepper motors cleanly, because they sell the wire to another vendor, but if you have some time, you can take apart a printer/scanner or two and get the motor of your desire...

They also have a program where anybody who volunteers for 24 hours, gets a $40 credit in their shop, which can get you a computer (which they will include a CRT if you need a monitor) or you can spend it on other parts like LCD Displays, Printers, RAM, Disk Drives Etc.

They take in E-Waste such as old computers/printers/ etc and break them down to keep them from ending up in a landfill as a whole, and find a re-cycler to re-use the vast majority of what they take in. (CRT's are just a cost item to them, so they will take them, but they ask that you donate the cost of disposal which is approximately $20. They also ask for a couple dollar donation for other items to help offset the cost of rent.

They are located just a few blocks from the HackFactory off of Minnehaha behind Coastal Foods at 2310 Snelling, stop over Wednesdays noon to 5, Saturdays Noon to 5, or Sundays 2pm to 7PM and check out the place or just the Thrift Store.

Just a side note on this topic...the hack factory is not FreeGeek and we do not have a collection area for this material.

Thanks
Karin
