Regarding tempered glass, How difficult is it for a mortal to cut tempered glass?
I recall my dad having a sheet of tempered glass which he had scored with a glass cutter but was still
unable break. As far as I know, that sheet of glass is still sitting around, somewhere, with that score line.

I'm not sure breaking tempered glass is too tough- I think breaking it NICELY is the hard part, since it will tend to shatter into nuggets rather than break along a score line.

Hmmm. I'm working on trying to build a similar UV box for use with alternative process photography.

But I used to get extra think glass to make contact sheets from the hardware store at 26th and Lyndale. It's now closed, but I'd start at a good neighborhood hardware store. If no luck there call Harmon Glass (http://www.harmoninc.com/) or try a stained glass shop. The folks at the Glass Endeavors are pretty cool (http://www.glassendeavors.com).
