Hey got any stuff that you'd like to put in a garage sale, but dont want to bother with actually having a garage sale?
Well, your in luck! we will take care of that for you.
First Annual TC MAKERS Garage Sale at the Hack Factory
We need to raise some funds for a couple of infrastructure projects that benefit all the members. Hows this sound? shop-wide dust collection, non-scanky bathrooms, air-conditioning that can keep up??? Mmmm... dust collection and air conditioning...
Now that we have your attention. we need all that stuff sitting in your garage and basement that you could donate to a fundraiser garage sale for the Hack Factory "Make the Hack Fac Nicer For All" Fund.
Tentative Sale date Sept 17-18st Tentative Setup and pack in Sept 14th
Note- date changed to allow more collection time and announce at wen meeting.Date also co-insides with Seward neighborhood events, meaning more people will be in the area.
The plan is to clean out the hack fac the previous weekend and identify items we no longer want. those items will either be thrown out or designated as garage sale items.
Bring your stuff to the hack factory with prices/name attached. The plan is to advertise the garage sale as a geek/maker centric sale.
Stuff we'd like: Books Hipster items Working electronics (please no old ctr monitors) art mechanical items camera gear tools sporting goods camping gear furniture (please no mattress or box springs) RC stuff Radio gear
Stuff we dont want: any clothing bedding mattress or box springs
If you have a question, post it here

One point needs to be made clear.
Are the items being donated to the HF before the sale for the HF to sell and take all proceeds? - or - Are the items being brought to a communal sale and sold by individuals with the proceeds being donated, in whole or in part, after the fact?
The reason I ask is because option 1 implies it becomes the HF's problem to deal with everything that doesn't sell. Option 2 means everyone takes back their crap that doesn't get sold.

I believe communal sale with peoples names and prices on each item. We write down what sold and whos item it was. They can decide how much to donate at the end (with the standard of at least 50%) for the hack Factory. Karin, I believe has the final call on this topic, but I think this was what was proposed. We will get it figured out and posted in the main thread and blog ASAP.

Started to look at realistic dates. This fundraiser needs a proper kick off announcement and time for people to participate. So its been moved out 1 month. Sept 17-18th. The seward neighborhood king faire is the same weekend. Which means a few of us will be promoting TCM there. But it also means there will be a lot of people in the area to see the garage sale signs.

Guess I will have to add sale price to that inventory DB. A minor tweak and we can track all items for sale, their owners and have a QR barcoded price tag for each item along with an Android client for folks managing the sale to track what sold and for what (if its negotiable that is).
Could I make the suggestion now that if we did do something where folks did not donate the cash directly to TC Maker that their be an option to convert any sales proceeds to membership dues?

I'm happy to donate stuff, but I would like to decide what department/project gets the funds, is this alright?

I am thinking that since we are looking at having 3 areas (metal shop, wood shop, elec-art-commons) under separate control/management. It would make sense to be able to designate an area for your donation to fund.
Metal shop Wood shop Electronics - art - commons Dust collection General funds (default if no pref is given)
Just bring in your items with price, lowest price accepted, area to donate to, and name/phone. These will get entered in spreadsheet and not be publicly viewable.
