I am trying to gauge interest in the TC Maker community for a basic luthier (build stringed instrument) class. I am looking at a 4 night class/workshop over 4 weeks.
Week one intro Design considerations Parts - Hardware. How those parts affect the design. wood choices (tone/weight)
Shop Time: How to make a blank
Homework: Go get some wood (younblood/rockler) glue said wood together (note 13" is max for my planer)
Week two Parts part 2 - pickups/electronics Shaping considerations
Shop Time Planer work (I'll bring in the 13" planer to work with) Cutting out shape Sanding
Homework: Quality time with bandsaw and sanders
Week Three Neck considerations (we will purchase neck blanks for this build) Pickup and control shapes Bridge considerations (tremelos, fixed, wrap around, pinned, tele) How to measure where everything goes Finishing options
Shop Time Routing
Homework Route pickups Route neck Route control cavity Install bridge
Week Four Making it all come together
Shop Time Wiring electronics Stringing Basic adjustments Tuning
Due to the nature of needing to use the shop for most of the class I am planning on everyone in the class either needs to be a member or purchase a one month membership to use the shop for the class. also note that the supply costs for this workshop will depend on the wood, pickups, neck, and hardware costs you choose, but expect that building your own custom guitar to cost about $300-$400.
Offical date is Monday Nights May 7-28th Member - $40 Non Member - $95 ($40 for class plus $55 for 1 month shop membership)

I really like this idea. This is an excellent class to have. The price is a little rich for my blood but I would definitely be interested if I could scrape up the cash

Ok, the dates work out. So lets plan on May for the class. Gonna limit the class to 4, but I dont see it filling up due the basic costs involved. Sign up with me via PM or in person at the minne-maker faire. I'm showing the guitar I am currently working on.
