Call for Interest: Handmade Music/Noise Night

Postby noise » Tue Jan 12, 2010 8:14 am

I would like to organize some sort of event for those among use that love to build things that make sound (music, noise, etc.).

I have a couple of ideas in this regard and would like to measure interest among the membership.

1. My initial idea was to model something after the gatherings that have been publicized as Handmade Music. I haven't quite figured out what this may involve, but I will be attempting to contact the parties involved for some inspiration.

2. A somewhat less formal idea is Noise Night, which would be our own periodic gathering of like minded noise geeks, we could do group builds of kits or other projects, or we could just get together and make some glorious noise with whatever we have made.

I want to try to make some contacts with parties in the community at large that may be interested, I will be attending a workshop this Wednesday at the Science Museum (part of the Make: Workshops series) presented by Beatrix*jar with the goal of making some contacts.

So if anyone has any ideas for contacts or anything else to contribute, please chime in.
Make it happen.

I'm very much interested in these kinds of projects. I've built stringed instruments, modular pickups, &c. and write FOSS software for audio synthesis/effects.

I haven't yet committed to become a member . . . would these events be open to guests?

The workshop with Beatrix*jar also sounds interesting, perhaps I can make it.

Everything is new, so decisions on things like this are still being made. I'm discussing it with the board.

You need to RSVP with Asia Ward for the workshop. Here is the current fb page, the one that had her phone number was removed for some reason.

Oh, here's a myspace page with her number.

Thanks, I left a message with Asia to RSVP.

Hope to see you there, I'm medium height with short hair and a stubble beard. That will narrow it down some, I bet.

Noise/handmade music night monthly in minneapolis I really want to be there for that. I think its a great idea and if I am correct the guy from create Digital Music is the one who put together the handmade music, we could shoot off an email and put something together, I know he has done things like this in the past.

I will be able to make the one in Feb, Mar, Apr for sure.

Let's make this happen!

Help would be welcome, I've been struggling a bit finding contact info for Handmade Music, I have one track that I haven't chased yet.

It looks like you are right Paul, Peter Kirn is the guy.

There is a Handmade Music forum on noisepages.com, but it appears that member registration has been disabled since Dec.

Thanks Paul.

That sounds good to me, the calendar is still pretty much wide open.

Any ideas what we could do?

I'd be very interested in attending noise nights at the Hack Factory as well. I would love to build an electro-mechanical music machine with input from midi files.
